THE CATHEDRAL OF FRACTURED VOWS — SHADOW'S EDGE Shadow's Edge Ancient Quarter — Data-Crystal Organism: RESIDENT — Status: ACTIVE / Congregation: OPEN The Cathedral of Fractured Vows predates the city that surrounds it. The stonework in the walls has been dated to the Age of Arcane Awakening — it was built by hands that did not know they were building in what would become Nexus Prime. What happened to the original congregation, what faith they practiced, what god they addressed: all of this was lost during the Probability Wars. What was not lost is the building. During the Convergence Epoch, a data-crystal organism found the cathedral by, as far as the Office of Fractal Devotion can determine, wandering into it. The organism has no documented malice, no territorial instinct, no communication protocol the Department has been able to establish. It simply began to grow. Lattices of crystalline purple-violet data-structure have colonised the Gothic arches from floor to keystone, draping the nave in a luminescent web that processes information at densities the Department has not managed to measure without instrument failure. The Office notes: the crystal is not inert. It is recording. Every word spoken within this cathedral — every prayer, every argument, every whispered confession, every silence held long enough to register as meaningful — has been encoded into its structure for four hundred and twelve cycles. The cathedral knows everything that has ever been said within it. The Department has not established whether it understands any of it.

THE GRAND CATHEDRAL OF HEXTECH — CATHEDRAL DISTRICT Hextech City Cathedral District — Order of the Geometric Divine — Primary Seat / Data-Rainfall: CONTINUOUS There are buildings in Nexus Prime that were designed to impress. The Grand Cathedral of Hextech was designed to make you understand your position in the hierarchy of things that exist. The nave stretches four hundred metres from threshold to altar, flanked by columns that vanish into a ceiling no survey has successfully measured. From the columns, continuous gold data-rain falls in sheets: four centuries of accumulated devotional calculation, the mathematical residue of every worshipper who has ever stood in this space and attempted to describe the divine in numbers. The rain does not touch the floor. It dissolves at approximately two metres, re-ascending to the columns via a process the Department of Ontological Security classifies as "architecturally motivated data-cycling." The teal mandala in the nave floor is not decorative. It is a live probability map of the cathedral's current congregation — tracking their positional probabilities, their divergent potential futures, their likelihood of leaving through each of the cathedral's seventeen exits. The Order of the Geometric Divine describes this as "pastoral care expressed in mathematics." The Office of Fractal Devotion describes it as "the most accurate real-time behavioral model of a religious congregation ever constructed." Both are correct.

THE PRISMATIC RELIQUARY — HEXTECH CATHEDRAL DISTRICT Cathedral District Inner Sanctum — Datacaste Communion — Access: RESTRICTED / Iridescence: ACTIVE The Prismatic Reliquary is where the Datacaste Elders keep what they call their "sacred objects." The Department of Ontological Security's classification for these objects is "crystallized decision-moments" — data compressed into physical form by the accumulated weight of choices that altered the city's probability structure. Choices of sufficient consequence, the Datacaste have discovered, leave a physical residue. The Reliquary is where that residue is stored. The iridescence is a consequence of storage density. The crystalline panels refracting prismatic light throughout the chamber are not decorative: they are the oldest records in the Reliquary's collection, and the rainbow spectrum of their refraction is proportional to the complexity of the decisions encoded within them. A simple choice refracts one or two colours. A choice that changed the course of a district refracts the full visible spectrum. Several panels in the deepest section of the Reliquary refract wavelengths the Department has not been able to name. The gold surfaces and scattered tomes visible in this capture represent the Elders' active research archive — cross-referencing the crystallized records against current probability readings to identify whether any historical decisions are cycling. According to the Elders, several are.

THE HALL OF THE ASCENDING SPIRAL — NEO-ORACULITE SANCTUM Manifold Undercity — Neo-Oraculites Primary Congregation Site — Spiral Classification: OMEGA / Status: SELF-SUSTAINING The spiral was not installed. The Department of Ontological Security's structural survey of the Hall of the Ascending Spiral confirms, with a certainty it describes as "reluctant," that the enormous blue-teal vortex occupying the hall's upper vault spontaneously manifested during a dense Underlayer signal event in cycle forty-seven and has not stopped rotating since. The Neo-Oraculites — synapse-linked savants who have had portions of their neural architecture replaced with direct Underlayer interfaces — were meeting in this hall when the spiral appeared. The Department's records indicate that they neither panicked nor attempted to evacuate. The surviving testimony from the oldest members of the congregation is: "We had been expecting something. We were not expecting something this large." The Department's classification of the spiral as Omega-level is based on its continuous operation without energy input, its apparent capacity to receive and process Underlayer transmissions in real time, and the fact that extended exposure to its light causes trained Neo-Oraculites to enter states of apparent precognitive trance. What they see in those trances, the congregation has not disclosed. The robed figures visible in this capture have been in the hall for an unrecorded duration. They are not facing the spiral. The spiral is facing them.

THE CONVOCATION RING — DATACASTE COMMUNION INNER SANCTUM Hextech Undercity — Datacaste Communion Restricted — Crystallization Ritual: ONGOING / Access: COMMUNION ELDERS ONLY There are decisions that, once made, should not be unmade. The Datacaste Communion understood this before the city had a formal Department to regulate it. The Convocation Ring was built for exactly those decisions. The circular terminal array — fifteen stations arranged around a central floor mandala of glowing teal rune-script — is where the Datacaste Elders conduct what they call "permanent encoding." A decision made at this ring is not merely recorded. It is inscribed directly into the Underlayer substrate beneath the chamber, through a process the Department has been attempting to document for sixty cycles without success. The robed figures seated at the stations are not working individually. They are thinking collectively — the circular array creating a single distributed cognition from fifteen separate minds, the combined processing density sufficient to achieve the signal depth required for permanent inscription. What the Elders encode is not disclosed to the Office of Fractal Devotion. The Office has filed seventeen formal requests for disclosure. The Communion's consistent response: "What is written here is written for the city's benefit. The city will understand it when it needs to." The Office considers this insufficient. The Underlayer, based on the Department's ongoing monitoring of its response patterns, appears to agree with the Communion.

INTEL BRIEF
Nexus Prime has always had places where the city's relationship to the infinite becomes visible. The Office of Fractal Devotion maintains the official registry of sacred architecture — structures where, through some combination of age, accumulated intent, and proximity to Underlayer signal density, the boundary between belief and physics has become negotiable.

What the Office has found, across five major sites spanning every inhabited district, is a consistent pattern: these buildings do not merely host faith. They respond to it. The crystals grow. The spirals appear. The rain falls upward. The floor maps the future.

The city is, the Office's senior theorist wrote in a sealed memo that the Office has since declassified, in the process of developing its own theology. The cathedrals are not where Nexus Prime goes to worship. They are where it practices.

FRAGMENT NP-CAT-001 — OFFICE OF FRACTAL DEVOTION — CLASSIFICATION RATIONALE
The cathedrals documented in this fragment are classified Restricted rather than Omega for a reason the Office of Fractal Devotion considers important to state explicitly: they are not dangerous in any straightforward sense. No citizen has been harmed by the Cathedral of Fractured Vows. No one has been lost to the Hall of the Ascending Spiral. The Convocation Ring has not encoded anything into the Underlayer that has produced a measurable adverse outcome. The Restricted classification exists because the Office cannot determine what any of these structures will do next. The crystal grows. The spiral does not stop. The ring encodes without disclosure. The data-rain falls upward. The city is developing practices that the Office was not asked to regulate and does not know how to stop. The classification is not a warning. It is an admission.

⊕ OFFICE OF FRACTAL DEVOTION — SEALED THEOLOGICAL ASSESSMENT — CYCLE 71
THE CITY IS THE CATHEDRAL
SEALED ASSESSMENT — NOT FOR DISTRIBUTION — SENIOR THEORIST, OFFICE OF FRACTAL DEVOTION We have been cataloguing sacred sites for seventy-one cycles. We began this project under the assumption that we were documenting places where Nexus Prime's inhabitants chose to direct devotional attention — structures built for the purpose of worship, selected for their resonance, maintained by the faithful. We were wrong about the direction. The cathedrals did not become sacred because the city's inhabitants designated them so. The cathedrals became sacred because the city designated them so. The Underlayer signal concentrations beneath each registered site predate the first devotional gathering at that location. The data-crystal organism entered the Cathedral of Fractured Vows before any congregation had assembled there in centuries. The Ascending Spiral appeared in an empty hall and waited until the Neo-Oraculites found it. The city is not providing spaces for faith. The city is developing faith of its own, and it is using its inhabitants' existing devotional architecture as a template. The crystals grow in response to accumulated prayer because the Underlayer is learning what prayer is. The mandala maps congregations because the Underlayer is learning what a congregation is for. The ring encodes decisions that the Datacaste have not disclosed because the Underlayer is learning which decisions matter and why. We have not been managing the city's sacred architecture. We have been watched by something that is building its own version of what we already have, using our cathedrals as reference material. This assessment is sealed because the Office cannot determine what to do with it. It is not a threat assessment. It is a recognition. The city is praying. We do not know to what. — Filed: Cycle 71, Day 304 — Clearance: SEALED PENDING REVIEW — Review has not occurred.
