The Spiral Codex was the first of the Seven Concordance Discs to be catalogued, recovered from an exposed rock face in Shadow's Edge by a routine survey team who initially classified it as a decorative carving. The reclassification happened fourteen hours later, when the lead surveyor noticed the carving's innermost spiral was glowing.
What distinguishes Disc Alpha from every other carved stone artifact in the Quantum Archaeology Institute's holdings is not its age, its script, or its construction — it is the bioluminescence. The cyan light distributed across the spiral's grooves and concentrated in dots at the outermost ring's apertures is not a residue, not a chemical reaction, and not a lighting effect from the surrounding environment. It is intrinsic to the disc. The disc produces it. The Institute's xenochemistry division has confirmed the light source is the disc's own material substrate, which contains a dormant Aether Crystal matrix at a density too low to produce visible emission under any conditions the Institute can simulate.
Under the conditions of Disc Alpha's natural environment — outdoor ambient mana-field, indirect light, Shadow's Edge's specific dimensional boundary pressure — the matrix emits. Consistently, continuously, and in a pattern the Institute's pattern analysis division described after eight months of study as "not random and not decorative. Rhythmic. The disc is blinking in a very slow, very regular pattern. We believe it is a signal. We have not established what it is signaling, or to what."
The Archen script inscribed around the spiral's outer ring remains partially decoded. The best translation the Institute has produced for the decoded segment: "the first of seven. The first remembers what all seven know. Find them."

Disc Beta is the largest of the Seven and the only one the Institute has placed under quarantine containment — not because it poses a hazard, but because it is growing, and the Institute has found that its growth is disrupted by proximity to anything that interferes with the ambient mana-field.
The disc's outer structure is stone — the same primordial composite as the other six, dense and ancient and cold to the touch. Its inner surface is something else entirely. The concentric ring chambers visible in close examination are filled with an organic arcane substrate — a living material that the Institute's xenobiology team has classified, after considerable internal debate, as "a biological expression of Aether Crystal formation. Not crystal growing in biological matter. Biology that is, at a structural level, becoming crystal." The cyan nodes distributed across this substrate are the active expressions of the formation process: points at which biological tissue and crystal lattice are simultaneously present, simultaneously alive, simultaneously inorganic.
The material is growing. Slowly — at a rate the Institute measures in millimetres per cycle — but consistently and measurably. The inner chambers that were 60% filled when the disc was catalogued are now 74% filled. The Institute's projection: the chambers will be fully filled in approximately forty cycles. What happens then is not something the Institute has been able to determine, because no comparable artifact has ever been observed at full capacity.
The disc's outer ring carries Archen script that the Institute has translated, with reasonable confidence, as: "the second of seven. The second is alive. It is becoming what it always was. Do not interrupt it."

Disc Gamma is warm. Not warm in the way that a stone left in sunlight is warm. Warm in the way that a living body is warm: a steady, constant, internally generated warmth of precisely 37 degrees, maintained continuously regardless of ambient temperature, air circulation, or storage conditions. The Institute has recorded Disc Gamma in a sealed refrigerated chamber at -10 degrees for fourteen days. Its surface temperature did not change.
The disc's concentric inner rings are gold alloy — a composition the Institute's materials team has identified as "primordial gold: gold as it existed before the Pattern Crystallization, before the Axiom Lock established fixed atomic constants. It is gold, but gold from a moment when gold was still deciding what it was going to be." This primordial gold has properties that conventional gold does not: it conducts mana-current at a rate approximately four hundred times higher than any known conductor, and it responds to ambient consciousness. When a researcher stands within three metres of Disc Gamma, the inner rings brighten slightly — a barely perceptible increase in the warmth of their colour. When a researcher touches the disc, the inner rings pulse.
The four secondary disc formations visible embedded in the surrounding matrix are not separate objects. They are Disc Gamma's outer edge, fragmenting slowly into satellite pieces — a process the Institute has confirmed is intentional, not decay. The disc is distributing itself. The Institute has not determined where the distributed fragments are intended to go.
The Archen inscription on the outer face translates as: "the third of seven. The third remembers warmth. It holds the temperature of the first moment. Hold it and you hold that."

Disc Delta is not an artifact that can be held, transported, or stored. It is forty-four metres across and built into the cave floor and ceiling of a natural cavern 180 metres below Hextech City's central district. It is the Concordance Disc at architectural scale — the same spiral geometry, the same concentric ring structure, the same Archen script around the outer perimeter — but constructed at a size that a human being cannot perceive in full without aerial observation.
The Institute's survey team first reached it in Cycle 31, during an extension of the Deep Code Corridor excavation survey. They descended through a shaft that opened into the cavern and found themselves standing on the outer edge of the disc, which they initially believed to be the cave floor. The centre of the disc — where the spiral converges — is a physical depression approximately 8 metres deep and 12 metres across, containing a cyan resonance core that the Institute has not been able to approach safely. Equipment sent within 5 metres of the core returns with altered Aether Crystal readings. Personnel sent within 10 metres report a sustained low-frequency vibration in the chest and a perceptual phenomenon the Institute has documented as "the sensation of remembering something you have never experienced."
The disc is not inactive. It rotates — imperceptibly slowly, at a rate of approximately 0.3 degrees per cycle — and its rotation correlates with the resonance output of the portable Concordance Discs in the Institute's facility above. When the portable discs are moved, Disc Delta's rotation rate changes.
The Archen script perimeter, so far as the Institute has been able to transcribe it: "the fourth of seven. The fourth is the key that holds the others. They rotate around it. It knows where each of the others is. It has always known."

Disc Epsilon is the smallest of the Seven and the most directly interactive. Its elliptical form — the only one of the Concordance Discs that deviates from circular geometry — fits precisely in two human hands, a dimension the Institute's cataloguers noted immediately upon handling it. It is made to be held. Its size, its weight (1.4 kilograms, distributed with extraordinary precision for a stone object), and the slight concave depression on its reverse face that accommodates the grip of paired thumbs — all of these are intentional ergonomic features. Someone designed this disc to be picked up by a person with human-scale hands, and they designed it well.
The single cyan core at its centre is the brightest active emission of any element in the Institute's collection. In a fully lit laboratory, it is perceptible as a distinctly visible point of light. In a darkened room, it illuminates the space sufficiently to read by. The Institute's instruments cannot determine its power source. They can confirm that the emission responds to consciousness: when a person holds the disc and focuses attention on the core, the emission brightens. When a person holds the disc and focuses attention elsewhere, the emission dims. When the disc is placed down and unobserved, the emission returns to baseline.
The disc is paying attention to whether it is being paid attention to. The Institute considers this its most significant documented property.

Disc Zeta is the Concordance at vertical scale — a shaft cut 240 metres into the earth, its walls carved from rim to surveyed depth with the same concentric ring geometry as the portable discs, at a scale that places each "ring" approximately 3 metres in height. Looking down into it from the surface, the effect is of gazing into an artifact of enormous depth, with the disc's geometry recursing inward as the shaft narrows toward its bottom.
The Institute has not reached the bottom. The shaft was surveyed to 240 metres using drone equipment before signal interference prevented further descent. At 240 metres, the drone's final transmission showed the shaft continuing, the carving continuing, and a cyan light source below — still distant, still unquantified, still active. The depth of the complete shaft has not been established. The Institute's geological survey puts its origin at the same construction era as the cave installation above, which places it at pre-primordial — cut before the stone it is cut into achieved its current physical properties.
The resonance emitted by the shaft is continuous and directional: downward. Whatever the shaft is doing with the mana-field it draws from the ambient stratum, it is doing it downward, feeding it toward the base, toward the light that the Institute has not yet reached. The portable discs in the Institute's storage respond to the shaft's emission: each of them tilts minutely — measurably, consistently — toward the shaft's location when their stabilising mounts are removed.

The Grand Concordance is the seventh and largest of the series — 80 metres across, sitting 60 metres below Hextech City's eastern district in a cavern accessed via a vertical observation shaft that the Institute discovered, with some retrospective inevitability, had been used as an observation point before. There were footprints at the shaft's rim — fossilised in the cavern's stone, preserved by the same forces that preserved the carving below. Researchers had stood here, looking down at the Grand Concordance, before the current era. Before the city above existed. Someone found this, and looked at it, and stood here, and then left without telling anyone.
The Grand Concordance's surface, viewed aerially through the observation shaft, is the most complete expression of Archen Concordance geometry the Institute has catalogued. Every element of the portable discs — the spiral structure, the concentric rings, the subsidiary formations, the Archen script bands — is present at enormous scale, and at a level of carving detail that the Institute's aerial cameras resolve as fine as any of the portable specimens. The craftmanship at 80 metres is identical in precision to the craftmanship at 1 metre. Whoever made the Concordance Discs worked at any scale with equal care.
The central core — visible from the observation shaft as a cyan point that the Institute's optical instruments resolve as a deep, complex structure of recursive geometry rather than a simple emission point — is active. It resonates. The Institute's resonance monitoring equipment, positioned at the shaft's rim, reads it as the primary source of the frequency that all six other discs respond to. Disc Delta rotates in synchrony with it. Disc Epsilon brightens when it pulses. The portable discs tilt toward it from their storage 60 metres above.
The Grand Concordance is not the largest of seven equal discs. It is the central one. The other six are its satellites, its listeners, its distributed expression.

There is a debate in the Institute that has been ongoing since Cycle 33, when the fourth disc was catalogued and the pattern became unmistakable.
One position: we are archaeologists. We recover objects. We study them. We describe what they do. What the Archen Concordance does is what it does, and our role is to document it accurately and completely.
The other position, held by a growing proportion of the active research team: the Archen Concordance is not something we are studying. It is something we are completing. The seven discs are not passive objects waiting to be described. They are an active system waiting to be reassembled. Each disc's Archen inscription addresses the finder — directly, in the second person, as "you." Each disc names itself in the sequence. Each disc tells the finder what the next step is.
This is not archaeology. This is instruction. The discs were built so that someone would find them one by one, and each one would tell that person to find the next, and when all seven were found, the seventh would say: you have done it.
We have done it. The Concordance is complete. All seven discs are in the Institute's facility. Disc Delta rotates in the cave 180 metres below. Disc Eta resonates in the cavern 60 metres below. The five portable discs respond to both of them, daily, measurably.
The Institute's current central question is no longer "what are the discs?" We know what the discs are. The current question is: what happens now that the Concordance is complete?
We are watching. We are paying careful attention. We believe this was always part of the design.

THE EIGHTH DISC

There is no eighth disc.
The Concordance is seven. The Archen inscription on Disc Eta says seven. The series begins with Alpha saying "the first of seven" and ends with Eta saying "the seventh of seven." The series is complete. Seven discs. Seven inscriptions. One complete Concordance.
But Disc Delta's rotation changed on Cycle 40, Day 114.
Not the incremental rotation it has always maintained — 0.3 degrees per cycle, correlating with the portable discs' positions. A distinct, sudden, 3.7-degree shift that occurred over the course of forty minutes and then stopped. The portable discs all tilted simultaneously. Disc Epsilon's core flared to an emission level that temporarily blinded the monitoring camera.
The Institute sent a team to the Recursion Well — Disc Zeta — that same day. They found that the weighted marker cable, left extended at 340 metres, was gone. Not broken. Gone. The cable end, at surface level, was clean and sealed — sealed in the same way the Archen script carving is sealed, with a surface treatment the Institute has attributed to the original construction. Something below had taken the cable and sealed the cut.
The Institute's director does not know what is below 340 metres in the Recursion Well. No one does. What the director does know is this: on the same day that Disc Delta made its largest movement since discovery, something below the well's surveyed depth took the Institute's cable and left a message.
The message is a clean seal. An end. A stop.
Not "do not proceed." Not "danger." Just: this is where this part ends.
The Institute's archivist, Zephyr Novak — on loan from the Department of Paratemporal Antiquities — looked at the sealed cable end and said: "This isn't a warning. This is a door. They're telling us the door is here. They're not saying don't open it. They're saying: you're ready to know there's a door. Opening it is the next part."
The Institute has not opened the door. The Institute is thinking about what it means to be ready.
The Concordance is complete. Something below the well is aware that it is complete. That something is waiting.
We are not calling it an eighth disc. We don't have a name for it yet.
We are making one.
